Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is designed to remove exce ss skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids giving you a more youthful, "awake" look. The procedure can correct drooping upper lids that tend to sag with time and the puffy bags below the eyes but it cannot alter dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, nor can it change sagging eyebrows. By our special suturing technique, no suture is necessary to be removed and then suture mark is not a problem later on. Blepharoplasty can be done as a single procedure, or in conjunction with facial surgery such as a facelift or a browlift.

Surgical procedure
Upper Blepharoplasty

In upper eyelid surgery (upper blepharoplasty), the surgeon first marks the individual lines and creases of the lids in order to keep the scars as invisible as possible along the natural skin fold. The incision is made, and excess fat, muscle, and loose skin are removed. Much of the operation is done with a very fine electrocautery,Ellman Surgitron, which controls any bleeding. Fine sutures are used to close the incisions, thereby minimizing the visibility of any scar.

Lower Blepharoplasty
The two most common methods of performing lower blepharoplasty are:

1) through a direct incision made just below the lower lashes. The surgeon lifts the skin and muscle to remove a small amount of fat. Excess skin and muscle are then trimmed from the lower lid. Much of the operation is done with a very fine electrocautery,Ellman Surgitron, which controls any bleeding. Fine sutures are used to close the incisions, thereby minimizing the visibility of any scar.
2) a technique called transconjunctival blepharoplasty may be used if you have a pocket of fat beneath your lower eyelids, but do not have any loose skin. It is usually performed on younger patients who have fat pads that push out through the eye muscle wall into their lower eyelids.
The transconjunctival method leaves no obvious scars. The cut is closed with self-dissolving stitches or is left to heal naturally. In addition to this surgery, a lid tightening procedure may be recommended and can be performed at the same time.

Anesthesia
The operation is generally performed under a local anesthesia but some patients are given sedation via an intravenous drip. In rare cases, a general anesthesia can be used.

Duration of operation
Upper or lower blepharoplasty usually takes only one hour.

Before care
Inform us about any allergies ,any serious medical condition(s),and all medications you are taking (both prescription and non –prescription). Avoid aspirin and aspirin –containing medicines for two weeks prior to surgery.

After care
After surgery, the surgeon will lubricate your upper eyelids with ointment. Your eyelids may feel tight and sore as the anesthesia wears off, but you can control any discomfort with the pain medication prescribed by your surgeon. If you feel any severe pain, call your surgeon immediately. You should keep your head elevated for several days, and use cold compresses to reduce swelling and bruising for a few days. Swelling and bruising varies considerably from person to person. Bruising typically disappears within seven to ten days.
For the first week, you’ll need to avoid activities that dry the eyes, including reading, watching television, wearing contacts, and using a computer. Also avoid excessive blinking, which leads to increased swelling. You should also wear dark sunglasses for a couple of weeks to protect your eyes from wind and sun irritation. The eyes may tire easily for several weeks; frequent naps are helpful.
For the first three or four weeks, you should avoid any activity that increases blood flow to the eyes, including bending, lifting, crying and sports. Your surgeon will let you know when you are ready for exercise. Also avoid drinking alcohol, which can lead to fluid retention and delay recovery.

Possible risks and complications
When eyelid surgery is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, complications are infrequent and usually minor. Nevertheless, there is always a possibility of complications, including, bleeding, infection, a slightly asymmetry of double lid fold or a reaction to the anesthesia. You can reduce your risks by closely following your surgeon's instructions both before and after surgery.

Results
Upper blepharoplasty can make a remarkable difference in the appearance of the face, alleviating the appearance of tiredness and old age. The eyes appear fresher and more youthful, and these results may last for many years.
The surgery of lower lids should smooth out bulges, take away fat bags from under eyes, and make the skin snugger. One will look rested, and people will see your face instead of focusing on your unsightly lower lids.
The results tend to be long lasting. The degree of improvement varies from patient to patient.
